A bad week...

A very bad week for us.
We learned on Sunday morning that Brian's grandmother died suddenly. It was quite a shock because she was not ill and she was planning a 2 week visit home to Philadelphia for Passover. So, on Tuesday we were off to Philly for the funeral. The kids were really good and Mason slept on a bed for the first time at night. I was really worried about him getting up in the middle of the night and walking around but he did great! I'm certainly not ready to give up his crib, but at least I know I can travel more freely with him.

Then, today I'm on my way out the door with the kids, excited cause it is my last day of school due to the Spring Break. I'm off for 10 days. So, what do I do going into the kid's daycare? I fall and break my ankle. I'm freaking out cause we live in a 3 level home so if I don't take steps, I don't get in. Fortunately, they were able to fit me with an air cast, so I can walk on it. I'm relieved, cause I can't deal with crutches. So it looks like my week off will be spent on the couch with my food elevated catching up on tv.

They say bad things happen in 3's. Let's hope not.

A day in Cherry Hill

A long and busy day for us! We left early this morning to go to our good friends Rob and Elena's daughter's (Naomi) baby naming. http://judaism.about.com/library/3_askrabbi_o/bl_simmons_babynaminggirl.htm
We had a good hour and a half ride up to Jersey and the kids looked so cute all dressed up for synagouge. I attempted to put a tie on Mason this morning and he wanted no part of that. He threw it at me. So I settled for a coordinating sweater. He looked pretty spiffy if I do say so myself! Sophie looked adorable in the dress she picked out herself to wear.

I was so excited for Mason to wear his personalized yamulke that I picked up for him. I couldn't wait to see how cute he looked in it. But, as you can see by the pictures, he wanted nothing to do with that either. He cried, even with my attempts to stick it to his head with masking tape.

We got to catch up with good friends that we havent seen in a while and Sophie enjoyed playing with their daughter Halle and Rob and Elena's daughter Maya. All three girls played like they were best friends and they had so much fun running around after lunch. It is so funny to see by the pictures how truly tiny Sophie is. She is older than Maya (4 months) and Halle (almost a year) and the 2 girls tower over her. I wonder when she will have a growth spurt.

After spending some relaxing time back at Rob and Elena's we met Brian's dad and Shelly for chinese food in Cherry Hill before hitting the dusty trial home to Maryland. The kids fell asleep in the car 15 minutes from home, and we were able to get them tucked into bed without waking them up.
A busy and fun day...hope they sleep late tomorrow!!!

Happy Spring!

Well, it's the 1st day of Spring, and you know what that means....

Free italian ice at Rita's! After dinner, we bundled up in our winter jackets (just because the calender says it's Spring, doesn't mean it feels like it!) and headed out to our local Rita's. The line was long, and by the time we got there, most of the good flavors were out. Sophie got cherry which she promptly spilled, and the world came to an end. Seriously. We were able to salvage most of it. I got Mason pina colada. I had no idea if he would like it or not. The whole reason I ordered it was it was white and I figured the most non-staining.

Everyone enjoyed!

Happy Spring everyone! Come on warm weather..we are waiting for you!

Goodnight...Sleep Tight!

Not an overly busy day for us. We all got to sleep until 8:20 this morning...yes..you read correctly... 8:20 am. So nice for the cold, snowy night before. I was thankful cause I stayed up way past my bedtime watching a Grey's Anatomy marathon...so hooked on that show!

We went furniture shopping to look for a dining room set and Sophie and Mason had fun running all over the store, trying out the sofas, chairs and beds.

After naps, we took a ride to our favorite sushi restaurant http://www.edosushimd.com. We stopped and got the kids Burger King, and the kids tried some vegetable tempura. It was fairly unsuccessful. Mason ate half a carrot and Sophie wouldn't have any part of it. She did enjoy the dipping sauce and used it for her french fries.

We always end every night with stories in Sophie's room. Mason loves "Goodnight Moon" and Sophie has heard it so many times that she can read it to Mason. Mason is starting to pick up some of the pages and he is repeating them as his big sister reads.

Goodnight!

So exciting!

When I went to pick up the kids today from daycare, I did what I always do. I always get Sophie first since she is on the 2nd floor and Mason last. Upon picking up Mason, I looked at his daily note to see what happened in his day and his teachers reported that Mason "pee'd" and "pooped" on the potty!!!!! Ok. I understand that he doesn't have the awareness of the actual potty training yet..so while I know it was incidental, I was psyched out of my mind just the same! He was very happy and excited to get all the praise! I am just counting the months down till I can be done with diapers!

We have just been loving this tease of Spring. The kids can't get enough of the outside and I have to wrestle them inside when it is time to get ready for bed. Sophie took her tricycle out for the first time this season and we were happy to notice that she can finally use the pedals! She lacks a certain amount of power to get the bike going, but it is much better than last year.

The cold weather seems like it is back now..at least for the short term. I better break out the fleece feetie pajamas tonight.

Sleeping In!!!

As I heard Mason talking loudly over the monitor this morning I looked at my alarm clock and it was a little after 8:00 am! Wow...I haven't slept past 8 since he has been born. Well, ok..it technically was not 8:00 since we pushed the clocks up ahead (did you all remember to do that?) but it put me in a better mood thinking I got to sleep in. So, I guess those of you good in math know that he actually got up at 7:00..yeah..that stinks.

Sophie and Mason had a new babysitter last night, Miss Nicole from Sophie's class. We were definately nervous for her to put Mason to bed...but we got the report that he did great and went to sleep 1..2...3... We didn't want to go out too far away if there was a problem..so after our 7:00 dinner, we were frantically trying to think of something to do..we were too late for a movie..and not much to do in Harford County as far as nightlife goes. We ended up at Kohl's shopping. I highly recommend that time for shopping. We had the whole store to ourselves!

I must go through 3 lbs. of bananas a week. My little monkeys need to eat one a day at the least. So after a chocolate chip pancake breakfast, they indulged in their favorite fruit.

The weather seems to be making a turn...let's hope we can get to the playground soon!

Aaah...Friday!

Another week gone by and the chores of the week are over. The kids have been sleeping for 2 hours, Brian and I caught up on some "must see tv" that we did not get a chance to watch this week. There is way too much good tv on right now. American Idol has filled up my last 3 nights. Thank goodness Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy were re-runs this week.

Sophie has been doing so well in school! She just finished her weekly unit on the letter "Q", and proudly learned how to point and click the mouse to play Sesame Street games online. Fine with me to have her learning and out of my way when I'm trying to get dinner on the table!

Mason has been challanging us lately with his picky eating. The only protein he was willing to eat for weeks were in the forms of macaroni and cheese and hotdogs. This week he suprised me by eating lamb and loving it! Tonight, both kids tried roasted tomato soup and loved it! Who knew?

Mason's new adorable thing of the week? Hands upward and says "I don't know" Cracks us up every time! He also loves to play dress up with Sophie. His favorite is the pink tutu. We are thinking he is the next Nabisco Snack Fairy!
